Jura Error 10: left grinder sensor (giga) or heater overheat

Error 10 means: GIGA gen 1: left grinder sensor, no pulses. GIGA gen 2: power board or heating. Standard lines: heater too hot.

Applies to: automatic machines (E6, E8, ENA, S8, J8, Z10, GIGA).

Short answerJura's own manuals define only Errors 2 and 5 and tell you to switch off with the On/Off button and contact customer support for any other error. The meaning below comes from a third-party technician service table, which numbers GIGA and standard machines differently. Jura-parts.com, a US parts seller, splits the GIGA line into a first and a second generation and gives different meanings for them. On first-generation GIGA machines Error 10 is the left grinder's Hall sensor giving no pulses, meaning the grinder did not turn, and a second source agrees. On second-generation GIGA machines the seller instead lists a power board or heating threshold fault. On standard lines the German service table lists the heater running too hot. We cannot tell you which generation your machine is. Some retail blogs call Error 10 a milk-system fault; no technical source supports that.

How to fix Error 10

  1. Switch off with the On/Off button, unplug for five minutes, then restart once. A transient fault can clear.
  2. On a GIGA with a grinder fault: switch off and unplug, empty the bean hopper completely, look for stones or clumped beans, and vacuum the hopper outlet and grinder throat with a plastic nozzle. Never push metal into the burrs.
  3. If it returns, stop and follow Jura's own instruction: contact Jura customer support or an authorised service centre.

Beyond the fix

Did you knowThe Hall sensor behind GIGA Error 10 counts pulses from the left grinder motor. Jura-parts.com adds that on Generation 2 GIGA machines the same number points to the power board and a heating threshold instead.

Tips and tricks

  • Fill the bean container with roasted, untreated beans only. Jura's GIGA manual warns that additives, ground coffee and freeze-dried coffee damage the grinder.manufacturer manual
  • Keep debris out of the bean container when refilling, as the GIGA manual asks.manufacturer manual
  • For any error other than 2 and 5, the GIGA manual says to power down with the On/Off button and then contact customer support.manufacturer manual

Common mistakes

  • Taking retail blog claims of a milk-system fault at face value. The technical sources we read describe a grinder sensor.
  • Reading a standard-line table for a GIGA. The German table lists Error 10 as a heater running too hot there.

Easily confused with

  • Standard lines use Error 10 for a heater that ran too hot, per the German table. Error 11 and 12 are the neighbouring grinder-side codes on GIGA.

Is it worth repairing?

Usually yes on GIGA and high-end machines; get a quote first.

When does Error 10 typically show up?

Juras report Error 10 any. That timing is a useful clue when narrowing the cause.

Can I keep using the machine with Error 10 showing?

Usually you can finish the drink you are making, but do not ignore it — the underlying fault rarely heals itself. Work through the cheap checks first.

Sometimes. Try the reset and cleaning steps first — they cost nothing and clear the milder cases. A code that returns within a day or two needs the parts fix.

How long does the repair take?

Thirty minutes to an hour if you are comfortable opening the case; budget an afternoon the first time.

How reliable is this page?Jura’s own manuals we read define only Errors 2 and 5 and tell you to contact support for any other number. Other meanings on Jura pages come from third-party technician service tables, which number the GIGA and standard lines differently. We mark those as lower confidence.
