Sunbeam coffee machine lights and beeps

Sunbeam espresso machines do not show numbered error codes. They signal everything with lights (steady, pulsing or flashing) and beeps, and the same light can mean different things on different models. Pick your model for the full list, taken from Sunbeam’s own user guide.

Pick your model

Your model number is printed on the base or back of the machine, for example EM5300.

Models we do not cover yet

We have not been able to read an official Sunbeam manual for the EM7000, EM5900, EM6910, EM6900, EM8910 or EM3820, and only a cropped quick-start guide for the EM4300. Rather than guess what their lights mean, we have left them out. If you own one, check the printed booklet, or contact Sunbeam Customer Care. We will add them when we can source them.

Descaling and cleaning

Only the EMM2900 and EMM6500 prompt you automatically to descale. The other models start descaling when you choose to run the cycle. The button presses for cleaning, descaling and priming differ by model, which is why each model has its own page. Sunbeam’s manuals name the right products: for example cleaning tablets EM0020 for the EM5300, and descaling tablets EM0010 or liquid KE0100 for the EMM7200.

Warranty and service

Sunbeam’s Australian warranty page says the warranty is for 12 months or more. To make a claim, call Customer Care on 1300 881 861 (10am to 6pm AEST, Monday to Friday), write to Locked Bag 5040, Botany NSW 2019, or use the Contact Us form; see Need help with your appliance. Keep your receipt. Outside warranty, Australian Consumer Law guarantees may still apply.

Questions

Do Sunbeam coffee machines have error codes?

Not numbered ones. In the Sunbeam user guides we read, faults are shown only by lights (steady, pulsing or flashing) and beeps. The same light can mean different things on different models, so find your model number first, then use that model’s page.

Why is my Sunbeam espresso machine flashing?

It depends on the model and which light is flashing. For example, on the EM5300 Barista Max a flashing STEAM light is a normal warm-up or cooldown, while on the EMM2900 Compact Barista a rapid STEAM flash means steam has run for more than 3 minutes. Open your model’s page for its full list.

How do I descale a Sunbeam coffee machine?

The buttons differ by model. Only the EMM2900 and EMM6500 prompt automatically for descaling; the others start descaling when you choose to. Use your model’s page and Sunbeam’s user guide for the exact sequence and descaler part number.

How do I make a warranty claim?

Sunbeam’s Australian warranty page says the warranty is for 12 months or more, with no machine-specific period given there. Claims go through Sunbeam Customer Care on 1300 881 861 (10am to 6pm AEST, Monday to Friday), by post to Locked Bag 5040, Botany NSW 2019, or through the Contact Us form on Sunbeam’s website. Check Sunbeam’s warranty page for current terms. In Australia your consumer guarantee rights can also apply after the warranty ends.
