Jura Error 11: grinder fault (giga)

Error 11 means: GIGA: grinder-side fault; sources disagree on the side and differ between GIGA generations.

Applies to: automatic machines (E6, E8, ENA, S8, J8, Z10, GIGA).

Short answerJura's own manuals define only Errors 2 and 5 and tell you to switch off with the On/Off button and contact customer support for any other error. The meaning below comes from a third-party technician service table, which numbers GIGA and standard machines differently. On the GIGA line sources agree Error 11 is a grinder-side fault but disagree on the side and cause: a service table says right grinder Hall sensor, while a UK servicer says the blades in the left hopper are jammed on the X8 and X8c and that clearing the beans can help. The parts seller also splits GIGA machines into first and second generation: it gives the right grinder's Hall sensor on first-generation machines and the left on second-generation ones, which may explain part of the disagreement (our inference only). We could not resolve which is right for your machine.

How to fix Error 11

  1. Switch off with the On/Off button, unplug for five minutes, then restart once. A transient fault can clear.
  2. Empty the bean hopper completely, look for stones or clumped beans, and vacuum the hopper outlet and grinder throat with a plastic nozzle. Never push metal into the burrs.
  3. If it returns, stop and follow Jura's own instruction: contact Jura customer support or an authorised service centre.

Beyond the fix

Did you knowGIGA machines carry two grinders that can be set separately for different beans. Jura-parts.com says the grinder side for a given Error 11 flips between first and second generation machines.

Tips and tricks

  • Switch off with the On/Off button and unplug before scooping beans or vacuuming the hopper. A UK servicer's steps for X8 and X8c: scoop out the hopper involved, then use a vacuum nozzle carefully.repair guide
  • The servicer says Error 11 is the left hopper, meaning the one on your left as you face the machine. A bean stuck deeper in the mechanism needs an engineer.repair guide
  • Only roasted, untreated beans should go in the bean container, per the GIGA manual.manufacturer manual

Common mistakes

  • Pushing tools into the grinder. The servicer recommends only a vacuum nozzle.
  • Assuming one side. Jura-parts.com says right grinder Hall sensor, the servicer says left blades jammed, and generation may explain it.

Easily confused with

  • Error 12 is the other hopper in the UK servicer's list and the left grinder in Jura-parts.com's list. Check which source matches your machine.

Can I fix Error 11 myself?

DIY difficulty: moderate. Switch off with the On/Off button, unplug for five minutes, then restart once. A transient fault can clear. Empty the bean hopper completely, look for stones or clumped beans, and vacuum the hopper outlet and grinder throat with a plastic nozzle. Never push metal into the burrs.

How much does it cost to fix Error 11?

Not published by Jura. Ask an authorised service centre for a quote. Service prices are not published by the manufacturer. Ask an authorised service centre, and an independent espresso repairer, for a quote.

Is it worth repairing?

Clearing a jam costs nothing; otherwise get a quote.

Error 11 during startup or during use?

Juras report Error 11 any. That timing is a useful clue when narrowing the cause.

Can I keep using the machine with Error 11 showing?

Usually you can finish the drink you are making, but do not ignore it — the underlying fault rarely heals itself. Work through the cheap checks first.

Will Error 11 clear on its own?

Sometimes. Try the reset and cleaning steps first — they cost nothing and clear the milder cases. A code that returns within a day or two needs the parts fix.

How long does the repair take?

Thirty minutes to an hour if you are comfortable opening the case; budget an afternoon the first time.
