Error 14Jura

Jura Error 14: stepper or grinder will not initialise

Error 14 means: GIGA gen 1: milk stepper motor; GIGA gen 2 and standard lines: right grinder. Will not initialise.

Applies to: automatic machines (E6, E8, ENA, S8, J8, Z10, GIGA).

Short answerJura's own manuals define only Errors 2 and 5 and tell you to switch off with the On/Off button and contact customer support for any other error. The meaning below comes from a third-party technician service table, which numbers GIGA and standard machines differently. The meaning splits by family: on first-generation GIGA machines Error 14 is the cappuccino (milk) stepper motor failing to initialise, and on standard lines it is the right grinder. Jura-parts.com, a US parts seller, lists the right grinder for second-generation GIGA machines too. We cannot tell you which generation your machine is. Retail blogs that call it an electronic-board fault or a water-tank detection fault cite no technical source.

How to fix Error 14

  1. Switch off with the On/Off button, unplug for five minutes, then restart once. A transient fault can clear.
  2. Run the milk-system cleaning programme if your machine has one, and check nothing is blocking the milk path. On a standard machine, check the grinder hopper as for Error 13.
  3. If it returns, stop and follow Jura's own instruction: contact Jura customer support or an authorised service centre.

Beyond the fix

Did you knowOn first-generation GIGA machines the stepper motor behind the dispensing spout opens the cappuccino valve. Jura-parts.com says second-generation machines use 14 for the right grinder instead.

Tips and tricks

  • Check which generation you own before reading any table. A parts seller gives opposite meanings for the same number between generations.repair guide
  • Most often the stepper motor itself needs replacing, per the parts seller. That is a technician repair behind the spout assembly.repair guide
  • For any error other than 2 and 5, the GIGA manual says to power down with the On/Off button and then contact customer support.manufacturer manual

Common mistakes

  • Treating a milk-side stepper fault as a grinder problem, or the reverse.
  • Reading 14 as the cappuccino stepper on a second-generation machine, where Jura-parts.com says it is the right grinder.

Easily confused with

  • Standard lines list 14 as the right grinder, while GIGA generation 1 lists the cappuccino stepper.

Questions

What does Error 14 mean on the Jura?

GIGA gen 1: milk stepper motor; GIGA gen 2 and standard lines: right grinder. Will not initialise. Can I fix Error 14 myself?

DIY difficulty: hard. Switch off with the On/Off button, unplug for five minutes, then restart once. A transient fault can clear. Run the milk-system cleaning programme if your machine has one, and check nothing is blocking the milk path. On a standard machine, check the grinder hopper as for Error 13.

How much does it cost to fix Error 14?

Not published by Jura. Ask an authorised service centre for a quote. Service prices are not published by the manufacturer. Ask an authorised service centre, and an independent espresso repairer, for a quote.

Error 14 during startup or during use?

Juras report Error 14 any. That timing is a useful clue when narrowing the cause.

Can I keep using the machine with Error 14 showing?

Usually you can finish the drink you are making, but do not ignore it — the underlying fault rarely heals itself. Work through the cheap checks first.

Will Error 14 clear on its own?

Rarely. A reset or power cycle is worth one try, but Error 14 with a "hard" difficulty rating almost always means a failed component that has to be replaced.

How long does the repair take?

This one is a bench repair for most owners — the teardown, test and reassembly are the bulk of the work, not the part itself.

How reliable is this page?Jura’s own manuals we read define only Errors 2 and 5 and tell you to contact support for any other number. Other meanings on Jura pages come from third-party technician service tables, which number the GIGA and standard lines differently. We mark those as lower confidence.
