How to fix Error 16
- Switch off with the On/Off button and unplug the machine.
- Amamus describes clearing beans trapped in the hopper vents with a vacuum nozzle. If you try that, keep the machine unplugged, empty the hopper and do not push anything into the machine.
- If Error 16 returns, contact Jura customer support or an authorised service centre.

The valve, vent motor and boards are internal; unplug the machine and do not open it.

Beyond the fix
Tips and tricks
- A UK servicer says to vacuum any blocked beans from the vents in the bean hopper top, using a nozzle and gentle pressure.repair guide
- Press the vents gently. A UK servicer says they should move up and down freely, and a stiff vent means something is blocking it.repair guide
- Turn the machine off and on once if the vents are clear. The servicer says the message should go away when no obstruction remains.repair guide
Common mistakes
- Assuming it is the ceramic valve. Jura-parts.com says that is the first-generation meaning only.
- Forcing a vent that does not move. The servicer says contact them if clearing does not work.
Easily confused with
- Error 6 is also a valve code on the standard lines in the same tables.

Questions
What does Error 16 mean on the Jura?
GIGA gen 1: multi-way valve; GIGA gen 2: hopper-vent stepper motor. No code 16 on standard lines. Jura's own manuals do not define this code, and sources number GIGA and standard machines differently. A German service table lists Error 16 only for the GIGA series (GIGA 5, W3, X3, X7, X8 and X9) and describes the multi-way ceramic valve as unable to move or reach position, with the fault in the valve, the power board or the logic board. Jura-parts.com, a US parts seller, agrees for first-generation GIGA machines but says that on second-generation GIGA machines Error 16 is the ventilation (hopper vent) stepper motor. The UK servicer Amamus also describes beans trapped in the hopper vents and a vacuum-nozzle fix. So the two meanings probably depend on the GIGA generation, which is our inference. We cannot tell you which generation your machine is.
Can I fix Error 16 myself?
DIY difficulty: hard. Switch off with the On/Off button and unplug the machine. Amamus describes clearing beans trapped in the hopper vents with a vacuum nozzle. If you try that, keep the machine unplugged, empty the hopper and do not push anything into the machine.

When does Error 16 typically show up?
Juras report Error 16 any. That timing is a useful clue when narrowing the cause.
Can I keep using the machine with Error 16 showing?
Usually you can finish the drink you are making, but do not ignore it — the underlying fault rarely heals itself. Work through the cheap checks first.
Will Error 16 clear on its own?
Rarely. A reset or power cycle is worth one try, but Error 16 with a "hard" difficulty rating almost always means a failed component that has to be replaced.
How long does the repair take?
This one is a bench repair for most owners — the teardown, test and reassembly are the bulk of the work, not the part itself.
