Applies to: automatic machines (E6, E8, ENA, S8, J8, Z10, GIGA).
How to fix Error 9
- Switch off with the On/Off button, unplug for five minutes, then restart once. A transient fault can clear.
- Run a full descale if one is due. Scale on the thermoblock is a documented cause of heating failures on GIGA machines.
- If it returns, stop and follow Jura's own instruction: contact Jura customer support or an authorised service centre.
When to stop and call a repairer
The likely causes (thermal fuse, relay, logic board, thermoblock) are internal parts on mains voltage.

Beyond the fix
Tips and tricks
- For any error other than 2 and 5, the GIGA manual says to power down with the On/Off button and then contact customer support.manufacturer manual
- A parts seller's GIGA Error 9 page says the failure is to heat properly at power-on. Note whether it happens only on a cold start and tell the technician.repair guide
- Descaling on schedule matters. The German table names a heavily scaled thermoblock among GIGA causes.repair guide
Common mistakes
- Assuming the same fix on every machine. The tables treat Error 9 as a heating fault on GIGA and a relay fault on the standard lines.
- Opening a heating circuit. A parts seller suggests checking contacts for corrosion, but that is mains-voltage work for a technician.
Easily confused with
- On other lines, a no-heating fault is Error 5 rather than 9 in the German table.

Questions
What does Error 9 mean on the Jura?
GIGA: heating failure, brew temperature not reached. Standard lines: logic relay defective (per a third-party service table). Jura's own manuals define only Errors 2 and 5 and tell you to switch off with the On/Off button and contact customer support for any other error. The meaning below comes from a third-party technician service table, which numbers GIGA and standard machines differently. On the GIGA line Error 9 means the brew temperature was not reached (temperature sensor, thermal fuse, logic board or a scaled thermoblock). On standard lines the same table lists a defective logic relay. Either way the cause is internal.
Can I fix Error 9 myself?
DIY difficulty: hard. Switch off with the On/Off button, unplug for five minutes, then restart once. A transient fault can clear. Run a full descale if one is due. Scale on the thermoblock is a documented cause of heating failures on GIGA machines.
How much does it cost to fix Error 9?
Not published by Jura. Ask an authorised service centre for a quote. Service prices are not published by the manufacturer. Ask an authorised service centre, and an independent espresso repairer, for a quote.
Is it worth repairing?
Get the quote first; on a high-end machine repair usually makes sense.
Error 9 during startup or during use?
Juras report Error 9 any. That timing is a useful clue when narrowing the cause.
Can I keep using the machine with Error 9 showing?
Treat it as a stop-using signal: Error 9 marks a fault that can damage the machine (or worse) if you keep running it. Do the safe first steps below, then stop.
Will Error 9 clear on its own?
Rarely. A reset or power cycle is worth one try, but Error 9 with a "hard" difficulty rating almost always means a failed component that has to be replaced.
How long does the repair take?
This one is a bench repair for most owners — the teardown, test and reassembly are the bulk of the work, not the part itself.
