Philips LatteGo error codes and warning lights
Which LatteGo you own decides what the machine shows. The 4300 and 5400 series show numbered codes on a display. The 2200 and 3200 series show warning lights instead.
Models covered: LatteGo 2200/3200 (EP22xx, EP32xx) in part B, and LatteGo 4300/5400 (EP43xx, EP54xx) in part A. We did not read manuals for older HD-series Philips or Saeco-brand machines, so do not assume this page applies to them. Philips does not state exact blink rates in the texts we read, so we describe lights as steady or flashing only. For other models and the full code list, see our Saeco and Philips troubleshooting page, the Philips / Saeco codes and the error code index.
Safety: unplug the machine before removing the brew group or any other part. Anything beyond the simple checks below needs Philips service or a qualified technician.
Part A: Series 4300 and 5400 numbered codes
Philips lists these in the 4300/5400 manual and in a support article. They agree except where noted. Codes missing from the manual table should go to Philips Consumer Care.
| Code | What Philips says it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | The coffee funnel is clogged. | Switch off and unplug. Take out the brew group. Push a spoon handle into the pre-ground compartment until the clog falls. |
| 03 | The brew group is dirty or poorly greased. | Rinse it in lukewarm water, let it air dry, then lubricate it as the manual describes. The support article adds a wait of 15 to 20 seconds after switching off. |
| 04 | The brew group is not positioned correctly. | Remove it and push it back in. The support article says a click confirms it is seated. |
| 05 | Two causes. First: air in the water circuit. Second: an AquaClean filter that was not prepared or is clogged. | For air: restart, dispense 2 to 3 cups of hot water, and descale if it is overdue. For the filter: remove it and test again, and replace it if the code stays. The support article says to shake the filter for 5 seconds, submerge the filter upside down and keep it there until no more bubbles rise, then run 2 to 3 cups of hot water through the machine. |
| 11 | The machine must adjust from a cold place to room temperature. | Switch off for 30 minutes, then switch on. If it persists, the manual says to contact Consumer Care. |
| 14 | The machine has overheated. | Switch off and wait 30 minutes before switching on again. |
| 19 | The sources differ, see below. | Manual: check the back plug first. Support article: let the machine warm up first, then check the plug. |
Error 19: loose plug or temperature
The 4300/5400 manual names a loose connection at the small plug on the back of the machine for Error 19. The Philips support article instead groups Error 11 and 19 under room temperature. We present both because they come from Philips and do not match. The manual points to the plug, so check it first with the machine unplugged. The support article says to let the machine warm up first and check the plug only if that fails.
Codes that need repair
Philips support says codes 02, 10, 15 and 22 need repair. Unplug the machine and contact Philips Consumer Care or a qualified technician. A repeated 11 after the 30-minute wait calls for Consumer Care, per the manual.
Display messages that are not codes
On the 4300/5400 the display also shows icon messages for an empty water tank, a bean refill, a full grounds container and a missing brew group. The descaling prompt appears on the display and is started from the clean icon menu.
Part B: Series 2200 and 3200 warning lights
These machines have no numbered error table in the manual we read. The meanings below come from a third-party copy of the Philips EP3243 manual (pages 17 and 18, plus pages 15 and 16 for filter and descaling). The text is Philips's, but we could not download an official PDF, so confidence is medium. We did not compare light layouts across 2200/3200 models.
| Light pattern | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Water tank light on | The tank is nearly empty or not seated. | Refill and push the tank fully in. |
| Grounds container light on | The container is full. | Empty it while the machine is on, then wait 5 seconds before reinserting. |
| Alarm light steady | The grounds container or drip tray is missing or misplaced, or the service door is open. | Refit the parts and close the door. |
| Alarm light flashing | The brew group is missing, misplaced or blocked. | Rinse, lubricate and refit the brew group. |
| Alarm light on and start light flashing | Air is trapped in the system. | Fill the tank, put a cup under the classic milk frother and press the flashing start/stop button. The manual warns of hot water jets. |
| AquaClean light flashing | The filter needs placing or replacing and activating. | Follow the filter steps. An orange flashing light after 95 litres means replace the filter. If the light goes out, start with descaling. |
| Descale light flashing slowly | The machine wants descaling. | Run the descaling programme, which takes about 30 minutes. The light also flashes during descaling. |
| Drink icons lighting and going out one by one | The machine is heating up or releasing drawn-in air. | Wait. |
| All warning lights flashing | Several causes are listed below. | See below. |
All lights flashing
Unplug and replug the machine. Remove the AquaClean filter, seat the tank fully, clear the pre-ground compartment with a spoon handle, clean the brew group and restart. If it then works, the manual says the filter was badly prepared. If the lights keep flashing, the machine may have overheated: switch it off for 30 minutes, and if that fails call Consumer Care.
We found no milk-jug warning light in these pages. Water hardness on the 2200/3200 is set with the aroma-strength icon while the machine is off. That is a setting, not a fault.
Saeco E05
A Saeco FAQ reportedly lists code 05 as air trapped in the water circuit. We only saw that through a search snippet because the page would not load, so confidence is medium to low. Repair forums tie E05 on some machines to the flow meter, pump, boiler or scale. That is unverified. Do not assume a Saeco E05 means the same as Philips 05 on every model.
Beyond the fix
Tips and tricks
- Rinse and grease the brew group: Philips asks for grease every 2 months on the piston, shaft and rails.manufacturer manual
- A video owner scrubs a grimy brew group with an old toothbrush under hot water, then dries it and adds food-grade grease on the piston and side rails.owner video
- For Error 05, restart and dispense 2 or 3 cups of hot water first; if it persists, take out the AquaClean filter and test brewing.manufacturer manual
Common mistakes
- Applying numbered codes to a 2200 or 3200, which signals faults with lights instead.
Easily confused with
- All warning lights flashing on a 2200/3200 is a light pattern, not a numbered code.

Questions
Does a Philips LatteGo 2200 or 3200 show error codes?
Not numbered ones, in the manual we read. The 2200/3200 machines use warning lights, and the troubleshooting chapter of the EP3243 manual is built around light patterns and a symptom table. We read that manual on a third-party host, not as an official Philips PDF, so treat the light meanings as medium confidence.
What does Philips LatteGo Error 11 mean?
On the 4300/5400 series, Philips says the machine has to adjust from a cold place, such as transport or outdoor storage, to room temperature. Switch it off for 30 minutes, then switch it on. If that fails, the manual says to contact Philips Consumer Care.
Is Error 19 a temperature fault or a loose plug?
The sources differ. The 4300/5400 manual names a loose connection at the small plug on the back of the machine. A Philips support article groups 11 and 19 as temperature faults. The manual points to the plug, so check it first with the machine unplugged. The support article says to let the machine warm up first and check the plug only if that fails.
Which Philips error codes need repair?
Philips support says codes 02, 10, 15 and 22 need repair. The 4300/5400 manual says codes not in its table should go to the Consumer Care Center. Unplug the machine and do not open it yourself.
