The Breville / Sage Oracle shows this code with identical meaning and fix as the Oracle Touch. Full guide for ER29.
Applies to: Oracle.
How to fix Error 29
- Let the machine sit for 30 to 60 minutes if the code mentions overheating. The Barista Touch manual says its thermal cut-out resets after cooling.
- Remove the hopper, empty it and check for a stone or a very oily, compacted bean layer at the burr throat.
- Clean the burrs and the chute with the brush, following the manual. Never wash burrs; moisture clogs them.
- Check the tamp fan / impeller under the burr is fitted and not stuck (Oracle models).
- Set the grind a little coarser, refit everything, and run a short grind with a small dose of beans.
- If the motor hums but does not turn with clean burrs, or the code returns, contact Breville or an authorised service centre. Do not open the machine.
When to stop and call a repairer
A burning smell means stop and let it cool; do not repeatedly retry a jammed motor.

How to check the error log
Leave the machine plugged in but switched off. Press and hold 1 CUP, 2 CUP and POWER together for at least one second. After the long beep the LCD shows the firmware version (starts with "Fr"). Press the SELECT dial once to open Error Storage, then rotate it to step through errors 1 to 32 and the stored count for each. Scroll past error 32 to "ErSt" and hold SELECT for 3 seconds to clear the log.
Clear the log after a repair so you can tell whether the fault has really gone.
Beyond the fix
Tips and tricks
- Follow the booklet's burr cleaning steps: empty hopper, remove burrs, brush them and the grind outlet, then dry thoroughly before reassembly.manufacturer manual
- Let the machine rest if the grinder has run hard, and avoid pushing the dial to the finest settings.manufacturer manual
- Leave the burrs to dry thoroughly before reassembly, and keep water out of the grinder.manufacturer manual
Common mistakes
- Reassembling the burrs before they are dry.
- Forgetting to refit the tamping fan after cleaning, which makes the grinder run on.
Easily confused with
- ER30 is the grinder timing out, which is often a blocked chute rather than heat.

Questions
What does Error 29 mean on the Breville / Sage Oracle?
Grinder motor overheated. The grinder motor got hot and shut itself down. Breville's manuals describe thermal cut-outs and warn about oil and foreign objects in the grinder, so a jam from beans, stones or compacted grounds, or a grind setting so fine that the motor labours, are plausible causes. Breville does not publish this code table.
Can I fix Error 29 myself?
DIY difficulty: easy. Let the machine sit for 30 to 60 minutes if the code mentions overheating. The Barista Touch manual says its thermal cut-out resets after cooling. Remove the hopper, empty it and check for a stone or a very oily, compacted bean layer at the burr throat.

Is it worth repairing?
Clearing a jam is free. For a motor, ask for a quote.
Error 29 during startup or during use?
Breville / Sage Oracles report Error 29 any time. There is no reliable pattern to when it appears — treat any occurrence as real.
Can I keep using the machine with Error 29 showing?
Generally yes — Error 29 is more of an annoyance than an emergency. Fix it when convenient; just do not let the cause sit for months.
Will Error 29 clear on its own?
Often, yes. The first step (let the machine sit for 30 to 60 minutes if the code mentions overheating. the barista touch manual says its thermal cut-out resets after cooling) clears a share of cases on its own. If the code comes straight back, the part is genuinely at fault.
How long does the repair take?
Fifteen to thirty minutes with basic tools, once you have the part.
