Jura Error 8 by model
Short answer: Jura’s own manuals that we read do not define Error 8. The usual explanation online is a brew unit problem, and that comes from a technician document, not from Jura.
Confidence: the brew unit meaning is medium confidence. It rests on one German parts-reseller service document. The other sources we found, such as retailer advice and a service company’s help page, agree on the brew unit, and forum threads mention it. All of them are low confidence.
What Jura says
Jura documents Error 2, and Error 5 where the manual lists it. Both are about the machine being too cold. For any other error, the manuals we read tell you to switch the machine off and contact support. None of them gives a meaning for Error 8. The Jura troubleshooting page covers the same point for the E8, ENA 8, Z10 and E6.
In our reading, E8 and ENA 8 are model names and Error 8 is a message
E8 and ENA 8 are model names. In our reading, Error 8 is a separate numbered message shown on the display. If you are searching for a machine that shows Error 8, the model name tells you which manual to check, and the number tells you which message you are looking at. Keep the two apart when you read any table or forum post.
What each manual says, by model line
| Model line | What Jura’s manual says | Defines Error 8? |
|---|---|---|
| E8 | Errors 2 and 5 are about cold. Other errors go to customer support. | No |
| ENA 8 | Errors 2 and 5 are about cold. Other errors: switch off, then contact support. | No |
| Z10 | Errors 2 and 5 are about cold. Other errors: switch off, then contact support. | No |
| E6 | Errors 2 and 5 are about cold. Other errors: switch off, then contact support. | No |
| F70 / F707 | The display shows a plain “ERROR” with no number, described as a general fault. Steps: switch off, unplug, reconnect, restart, then have Jura service check it. | No. No number is given. Whether some firmware shows one is not confirmed. |
| A7 / A700 | The German section lists Error 2 only. Other errors: switch off and call country support. We did not check the English section. | No (German section) |
| S8, J8 | We could not find these manuals. | Not verified |
The technician document does not name the Z10, ENA 8, J8, S8 or F70, so we cannot confirm that its Error 8 entry applies to them. It does list the number against older lines such as the A, C, E, F, J, S, X and Z families (the Z and X rows are less certain). Its “E8” entry is probably an older E-line machine, not the current E8. That last point is our inference.
What technicians cite as possible causes
These are not from Jura. They come from the one German reseller service document, which says Error 8 means the brew unit cannot be positioned or initialised. The causes it lists, by symptom:
- Brew unit stiff: swollen or torn seals (O-rings).
- Brew unit not moving: transformer, motor, cable contacts, power board or logic board.
- Brew unit in the wrong position: drain valve, encoder, encoder cable, motor, guide roller or boards.
All of these need a technician. We give no steps for opening the machine. The document’s own remedy is to find and replace the faulty part.
What is safe to try
- Switch the machine off, unplug it, plug it back in and restart. This is the restart step the Jura F70 manual gives for its general ERROR message. Whether it clears Error 8 is not confirmed.
- Empty the grounds container and drip tray. A support page from a service company (low confidence) suggests this, plus a few minutes unplugged and a cleaning tablet run if one is due.
- If the error comes back, contact Jura customer support or a qualified service technician. Do not try to force the brew unit.
One forum post, seen only in a search summary, reports the error returning after cleaning, so a repeat is a reason to stop and call service. See also our Error 8 page, the Jura error list and the wider error codes index.
Beyond the fix
Tips and tricks
- Unplug for five minutes, empty both bins, reseat them and run a cleaning tablet cycle if the machine allows. This is the order a UK service company gives.repair guide
- If the drawer will not go back in, remove the grounds box first, since it often catches the puck scraper flap, and let the brew group finish moving.technician video
- Note what you hear before the error. A UK Jura dealer links grinding to the motor and clicking without movement to the transformer.repair guide
Common mistakes
- Treating model names and error numbers as the same thing. E8 and ENA 8 are models; Error 8 is a separate display message.
- Applying the standard-line table to a GIGA. The German service table puts the brew group at Error 17 on GIGA.
Easily confused with
- On Impressa 500, Ultra and X7, a displayed 7 is really Error 8, per the German table. On display-less machines Jura-parts.com gives the empty-grounds symbol for 8, but the German table gives the water-tank symbol on the ENA Micro.

Questions
Does Jura define Error 8 in its manuals?
Not in any manual we read. Jura documents Error 2 (and Error 5 in some manuals), both about the machine being too cold. For other numbers the manuals say to switch off and contact customer support. We did not retrieve Jura’s online support pages, so we cannot speak for those.
What does Jura Error 8 usually mean?
One German parts-reseller technician document describes it as the brew unit being unable to position or initialise itself. That is medium-confidence: it is a single technical source, not Jura. Retailer and service pages we found point the same way, and one forum post mentions it. All are low-confidence.
Is the Jura E8 the same as Error 8?
In our reading, no. E8 and ENA 8 are model names. In our reading, Error 8 is a separate numbered message on the display. Most model lines we read show numbered errors, so the model name and the error number are two different pieces of information.
Can I fix Error 8 myself?
Jura gives no do-it-yourself fix for it. The only restart step in a Jura manual we found is the F70 general-fault restart, which is not confirmed for Error 8. We did not check Jura’s online support pages. Contact Jura service if the error returns. The causes technicians cite involve the brew unit, motor and electronics, which need a qualified technician.
