The Breville / Sage Oracle shows this code with identical meaning and fix as the Oracle Touch. Full guide for ER15.
Applies to: Oracle.
How to fix Error 15
- Switch off at the wall and unplug. Leave the machine for an hour so any moisture dries, then try again. A short that clears after drying suggests a leak to find.
- Deep-clean the steam wand and tip as the manual describes and dry the machine. If the code recurs, a technician would check or replace the wand assembly.
- A technician would replace any leaking o-rings at the boiler fittings and sensor probes; the leak, not the sensor, may be the true fault.
- If the code persists after everything is dry, the steam wand temperature sensor (NTC) needs replacing by a technician.
- Afterwards, clear the error log and run a full heat-up and a shot to confirm.
When to stop and call a repairer
If you see scorch marks, smell burning, or the machine trips your GFCI / RCD, stop: that is an electrical fault, not just a sensor.

How to check the error log
Leave the machine plugged in but switched off. Press and hold 1 CUP, 2 CUP and POWER together for at least one second. After the long beep the LCD shows the firmware version (starts with "Fr"). Press the SELECT dial once to open Error Storage, then rotate it to step through errors 1 to 32 and the stored count for each. Scroll past error 32 to "ErSt" and hold SELECT for 3 seconds to clear the log.
Clear the log after a repair so you can tell whether the fault has really gone.
Beyond the fix
Tips and tricks
- Soak a blocked wand and tip in the supplied cleaning powder solution for 20 minutes, rinse, refit the tip and run steam for 10 seconds.manufacturer manual
- After each use, clean the wand and tip with a damp cloth and purge it right away. Breville says skipping this may affect milk texturing.manufacturer manual
- Only for the two symptoms where the manual says so, a machine that is on but will not operate or steam pouring from the group head: switch off, wait 60 minutes, switch back on. For an Operation Error message the manual says to contact Breville.manufacturer manual
Common mistakes
- Pushing a pin or pointed object into the wand tip while it is steaming; the manual says to stop steaming and use the supplied tool.
- Clearing or ignoring the stored error without noting which code and how often it appeared, which loses the best clue for a technician.
Easily confused with
- Weak or missing steam with no code can be a blocked wand tip, which the manual covers under cleaning.

Questions
What does Error 15 mean on the Breville / Sage Oracle?
Steam wand temperature sensor short circuit at startup. The steam wand temperature sensor (NTC) is reading as a short circuit: the board sees near-zero resistance, which a healthy sensor does not produce. Technician sources name water bridging the sensor contacts (a leak or steam at the probe seal) and a failed sensor as the likely causes. Because it failed at startup, a wet connector or a sensor that has already failed is plausible. Breville does not publish this code table, so the meaning comes from third-party service tables.
Can I fix Error 15 myself?
DIY difficulty: hard. Switch off at the wall and unplug. Leave the machine for an hour so any moisture dries, then try again. A short that clears after drying suggests a leak to find. Deep-clean the steam wand and tip as the manual describes and dry the machine. If the code recurs, a technician would check or replace the wand assembly.

Error 15 during startup or during use?
Breville / Sage Oracles report Error 15 during the power-on self-test. That timing is a useful clue when narrowing the cause.
Can I keep using the machine with Error 15 showing?
Usually you can finish the drink you are making, but do not ignore it — the underlying fault rarely heals itself. Work through the cheap checks first.
Will Error 15 clear on its own?
Rarely. A reset or power cycle is worth one try, but Error 15 with a "hard" difficulty rating almost always means a failed component that has to be replaced.
How long does the repair take?
This one is a bench repair for most owners — the teardown, test and reassembly are the bulk of the work, not the part itself.
