How to fix E11
- Let the machine sit for 30 to 60 minutes if the code mentions overheating. The Barista Touch manual says its thermal cut-out resets after cooling.
- Remove the hopper, empty it and check for a stone or a very oily, compacted bean layer at the burr throat.
- Clean the burrs and the chute with the brush, following the manual. Never wash burrs; moisture clogs them.
- Check the tamp fan / impeller under the burr is fitted and not stuck (Oracle models).
- Set the grind a little coarser, refit everything, and run a short grind with a small dose of beans.
- If the motor hums but does not turn with clean burrs, or the code returns, contact Breville or an authorised service centre. Do not open the machine.
When to stop and call a repairer
A burning smell means stop and let it cool; do not repeatedly retry a jammed motor.

How to check the error log
Open Settings on the touch screen, then About the Machine, then Software version. On that screen tap each bottom corner of the screen several times. Go back to About the Machine and a new Service center mode entry appears. Open it to view the error log.
Clear the log after a repair so you can tell whether the fault has really gone.
Beyond the fix
Tips and tricks
- Unplug, remove the bean hopper and check the burrs for foreign objects. Clean the burrs and grind outlet with the brushes supplied.manufacturer manual
- Let the burrs dry fully before reassembly if damp grounds clogged them. The manual allows a hair dryer to speed this up.manufacturer manual
- On an Oracle Touch, compacted grounds in the chute can block it. A plastic cable tie loosens them more safely than metal tools.technician video
Common mistakes
- Poking metal tools into the chute.
- Reassembling damp burrs.
- Grinding green or under-roasted beans, which the manual says can damage the burr grinder.
Easily confused with
- No grounds from the outlet with the motor running points to an empty or stuck hopper, per the manual.

Questions
What does E11 mean on the Breville / Sage Oracle Jet?
Grinder blocked causing excessive current draw. The grinder is drawing too much current or not turning. Breville's manuals describe thermal cut-outs and warn about oil and foreign objects in the grinder, so a jam from beans, stones or compacted grounds, or a grind setting so fine that the motor labours, are plausible causes. Breville does not publish this code table.
Can I fix E11 myself?
DIY difficulty: easy. Let the machine sit for 30 to 60 minutes if the code mentions overheating. The Barista Touch manual says its thermal cut-out resets after cooling. Remove the hopper, empty it and check for a stone or a very oily, compacted bean layer at the burr throat.

Is it worth repairing?
Clearing a jam is free. For a motor, ask for a quote.
E11 during startup or during use?
Breville / Sage Oracle Jets report E11 any time. There is no reliable pattern to when it appears — treat any occurrence as real.
Can I keep using the machine with E11 showing?
Generally yes — E11 is more of an annoyance than an emergency. Fix it when convenient; just do not let the cause sit for months.
Will E11 clear on its own?
Often, yes. The first step (let the machine sit for 30 to 60 minutes if the code mentions overheating. the barista touch manual says its thermal cut-out resets after cooling) clears a share of cases on its own. If the code comes straight back, the part is genuinely at fault.
How long does the repair take?
Fifteen to thirty minutes with basic tools, once you have the part.
