Breville / Sage Oracle Jet E9: electrical safety protection triggered

E9 means: Electrical fast protection triggered during heater operation.

Applies to: Oracle Jet.

Short answerThe machine detected an electrical fault: leakage current to ground, an unexpected mains waveform, or a heater drawing power when it should not, according to third-party service tables (Breville publishes no code table). Water on a heating element or the power board is a plausible cause. This is the kind of fault that can also trip the GFCI / RCD in your kitchen.

How to fix E9

  1. Unplug. Do not keep resetting the breaker; each trip means current is going where it should not.
  2. Let the machine dry for 24 hours somewhere warm if it has been leaking.
  3. Check the mains cable and plug for damage and try a different socket on a different circuit.
  4. If it trips again, or if you cannot find the cause, contact Breville or an authorised service centre. Finding a leak behind panels or testing the element and power board is technician work.

E9 during startup or during use?

Breville / Sage Oracle Jets report E9 while brewing or steaming. That timing is a useful clue when narrowing the cause.

Can I keep using the machine with E9 showing?

Treat it as a stop-using signal: E9 marks a fault that can damage the machine (or worse) if you keep running it. Do the safe first steps below, then stop.

Will E9 clear on its own?

How reliable is this page?Breville and Sage do not publish a table of error codes for these machines in the documents we found. The meanings on this page come from third-party repair references and owner reports, so treat them as lower confidence. If your machine shows a text alert, follow the on-screen text first.
