Same code, same fix on the Oracle. Everything below applies to both.
Applies to: Oracle Touch.
How to fix ER10
- Switch the machine off at the wall, wait 60 seconds and switch it back on. A one-off reading glitch clears; a real open circuit comes straight back.
- Reaching the group head temperature sensor (NTC) plug means opening the machine, which is technician work. A technician would check that plug on the control board for corrosion or heat marks and test the sensor circuit. Tell them the code you see.
- Look under and around the machine, from the outside, for water trails. Moisture on a connector can read as an open or short circuit; a technician would find and fix the leak behind it, often a boiler o-ring or hose clip.
- If the code returns, the group head temperature sensor (NTC) or its wiring needs replacing by a technician.
- Afterwards, clear the stored error (see how to read the error log below) so you can tell whether it recurs.
When to stop and call a repairer
Stop and book service if you see water leaking, a burning smell or any scorch marks. Do not open the machine yourself.

How to check the error log
Switch the machine off at the wall. Hold the front Power button, switch the wall power back on and release when the logo appears. Enter the service password 00000, then open Error Counter (stored faults) or Live Debug (live temperatures and water levels). One technician video says the entry method differs between machines built before and after 2018, so if this does not work, do not keep trying.
Clear the log after a repair so you can tell whether the fault has really gone.
Beyond the fix
Tips and tricks
- Before inserting the portafilter, run water through the group head for about 5 seconds. This clears coffee residue and settles the water temperature before a shot.manufacturer manual
- Do the clear-water backflush with the cleaning disc before switching off: build pressure for 20 seconds, release, repeat 5 times. It purges coffee oils and fines from the brew water path.manufacturer manual
- A technician video shows entering the service menu by holding the power button while plugging in; the method varies by machine build year. Note the stored errors, clear them and restart to see which return.technician video
Common mistakes
- Clearing or ignoring the stored error without noting which code and how often it appeared, which loses the best clue for a technician.
- Assuming one forum fix applies to every ER code. The same word-for-word code on a Barista Touch can point to a different part.
Easily confused with
- An on-screen Operation Error message is a generic fault notice in the manual, not one of these numbered codes. Check the service menu for the stored number.

Questions
What does ER10 mean on the Breville / Sage Oracle Touch?
Group head temperature sensor lost during operation. The control board cannot read the group head temperature sensor (NTC). On this code the sensor reads as an open circuit: the wire has come off, the plug is loose or corroded, or the sensor itself has failed. Because it dropped out mid-cycle, a loose or heat-damaged connection is the most likely cause. Breville does not publish this code table, so the meaning comes from third-party service tables.
Can I fix ER10 myself?
DIY difficulty: hard. Switch the machine off at the wall, wait 60 seconds and switch it back on. A one-off reading glitch clears; a real open circuit comes straight back. Reaching the group head temperature sensor (NTC) plug means opening the machine, which is technician work. A technician would check that plug on the control board for corrosion or heat marks and test the sensor circuit. Tell them the code you see.

Is it worth repairing?
Often yes for a single sensor, but Breville does not publish repair costs. Get a quote first, especially on an older machine.
When does ER10 typically show up?
Breville / Sage Oracle Touchs report ER10 while brewing or steaming. That timing is a useful clue when narrowing the cause.
Can I keep using the machine with ER10 showing?
Usually you can finish the drink you are making, but do not ignore it — the underlying fault rarely heals itself. Work through the cheap checks first.
Will ER10 clear on its own?
Rarely. A reset or power cycle is worth one try, but ER10 with a "hard" difficulty rating almost always means a failed component that has to be replaced.
How long does the repair take?
This one is a bench repair for most owners — the teardown, test and reassembly are the bulk of the work, not the part itself.
